At Credit Valley Hospital, physiotherapy is focused on helping individuals like you achieve significant improvements in health and daily activities. Betty frequently helps patients work towards goals such as:
- If that nagging tennis elbow (or golfer's elbow) that flares up with activity is preventing you from fully enjoying challenging myself with indoor or outdoor rock climbing, Betty offers expert guidance and tailored treatment. Physiotherapy focuses on attaining developing better body awareness and understanding of healthy movement patterns, often utilizing targeted exercises, manual therapy, and education to help you regain your previous level of function.
- Dealing with the ongoing challenges of feeling 'off-balance' and worried about falling, especially as I get older? Betty works collaboratively with patients to reach the goal of getting back their independence with daily activities and personal care. This might involve specific rehabilitation techniques, hands-on care, and a home program, all aimed at helping you confidently resume important activities, such as reaching for items on high shelves or in cupboards without shoulder strain.
- Many individuals seek help from Betty, their physiotherapist, when pain or weakness that's stopping me from enjoying my favorite hobbies starts impacting daily life. Through a personalized physiotherapy plan, they often achieve increased flexibility throughout their body, particularly in their back and major joints, empowering them to joyfully return to activities like competing effectively in their curling league games.
- The path to recovery from numbness, tingling, or weakness in my hands, arms, feet, or legs and achieving returning to their workout routine with greater confidence and better performance for walking their children to school or the park often starts with expert guidance. Betty, a skilled physiotherapist, provides just that.
Your personalized physiotherapy plan, developed with Betty, will be designed to help you reach your specific functional and wellness objectives.

- Is physiotherapy covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) in ON?
- OHIP generally does NOT cover physiotherapy services in private outpatient clinics for most Ontarians. Publicly funded physiotherapy is available in specific situations (e.g., post-hospitalization for certain conditions, for children/youth, seniors, or through Community Physiotherapy Clinics/Family Health Teams), but eligibility criteria are strict and there may be waitlists. Always check your private/extended health insurance plan, as many offer significant physiotherapy coverage for services in private clinics.
- Is there anything specific I should bring to my first physiotherapy appointment?
- To make your first appointment as smooth and productive as possible, please consider bringing: your health card, any doctor's referral letter (if applicable), results or reports of any imaging tests (X-rays, ultrasounds, MRIs) related to your current condition, a list of any medications you are currently taking, and your extended health benefits information (insurance card/policy number) for direct billing if available at our clinic. Wearing comfortable clothes is also a good idea.
- Approximately how many physiotherapy sessions will I need?
- The number of physiotherapy sessions required varies greatly from person to person. It depends on several factors, including the nature and severity of your condition, how long you've had the issue (acute vs. chronic), your individual treatment goals, your body's unique response to therapy, and how consistently you are able to follow your prescribed home exercise program and self-management advice. Your Physiotherapist will discuss a proposed treatment frequency and estimated duration after your initial assessment and will continually re-evaluate your progress with you.
- Do I need a doctor's referral to see a Physiotherapist in ON?
- Patients in ON can typically see a Physiotherapist directly without a physician's referral (direct access). However, some private/extended health insurance plans require a referral for reimbursement. Check your insurance policy before your first appointment.
- What is Credit Valley Hospital's appointment cancellation policy?
- We understand that schedules can change unexpectedly. To ensure we can accommodate all our patients efficiently, we kindly request at least 24 hours' notice for any appointment cancellations or rescheduling. This allows us to offer the time slot to other patients. A fee may be charged for late cancellations (less than 24 hours' notice) or missed appointments without sufficient notice. Please contact our clinic as soon as possible if you need to make any changes to your appointment.
