Frequently Asked Questions about Chiropractic Care

Do chiropractors provide exercises or stretches?
Yes, exercises and stretches are an integral part of many chiropractic treatment strategies. Your Chiropractor will likely show you specific movements to do at home to help speed up your recovery, maintain your progress, and prevent the problem from returning.
What is that 'cracking' or 'popping' sound during an adjustment?
That sound is a common and usually harmless phenomenon called joint cavitation. When a joint is gapped during an adjustment, the pressure inside the joint decreases, allowing dissolved gases in the joint fluid to form a bubble, which then quickly collapses, creating the 'pop'. It doesn't mean bones are cracking, and many effective adjustments occur without any sound at all.
What is Magnum Healthcare's appointment cancellation policy?
We understand that life happens! However, to ensure we can accommodate all our patients, we kindly request at least 24 hours' notice for any appointment cancellations or rescheduling. Appointments missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice may be subject to a cancellation fee. Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to make changes.
Is chiropractic care covered by Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) in ON?
Generally, OHIP does not cover chiropractic services provided in private clinics for most residents. Some limited exceptions may exist if care is delivered within a Community Health Centre or Family Health Team with integrated chiropractic services, but these are rare. It is recommended to check with your private insurance provider for coverage details.
What are the typical phases of chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care often progresses through a few general phases: 1. **Initial Intensive/Relief Care:** This phase focuses on reducing your immediate pain, inflammation, and discomfort. Visits may be more frequent during this stage. 2. **Corrective/Rehabilitative Care:** Once symptoms are under control, the focus shifts to correcting underlying joint dysfunction, improving muscle strength and flexibility, and restoring normal movement patterns. Visit frequency usually decreases. 3. **Wellness/Maintenance Care (Optional):** Some patients choose periodic visits to maintain their improvements, prevent recurrences, and support overall spinal health and well-being. Your Chiropractor will discuss what’s appropriate for your specific situation and goals.
Do I need a doctor's referral to see a Chiropractor in ON?
Chiropractors are primary contact healthcare professionals in Ontario, meaning you can book an appointment directly without a referral from a medical doctor. However, some private/extended health insurance plans may require a doctor’s referral for reimbursement purposes. It is advisable to check your individual insurance policy for specific requirements.
