Frequently Asked Questions about Chiropractic Care

What is that 'cracking' or 'popping' sound during an adjustment?
That sound is a common and usually harmless phenomenon called joint cavitation. When a joint is gapped during an adjustment, the pressure inside the joint decreases, allowing dissolved gases in the joint fluid to form a bubble, which then quickly collapses, creating the 'pop'. It doesn't mean bones are cracking, and many effective adjustments occur without any sound at all.
What is our clinic's appointment cancellation policy?
We understand that life happens! However, to ensure we can accommodate all our patients, we kindly request at least 24 hours' notice for any appointment cancellations or rescheduling. Appointments missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice may be subject to a cancellation fee. Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to make changes.
Can children and babies receive chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care is safe and beneficial for children of all ages, from infants to teenagers. Techniques are always modified to be extremely gentle and appropriate for each child's age, size, and developmental stage. Parents often seek chiropractic care for concerns such as posture, after minor falls or sports-related tumbles, to support spinal health during growth, or for issues like colic or feeding difficulties in infants where gentle musculoskeletal approaches may be helpful.
Is chiropractic care covered by Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) in ON?
Generally, OHIP does not cover chiropractic services in private clinics for most residents. There might be very limited exceptions through specific government programs or if care is provided within a Community Health Centre or Family Health Team that has integrated chiropractic services, but this is rare. Patients are advised to check their private insurance coverage for benefits.
Do I need a doctor's referral to see a Chiropractor in ON?
Chiropractors are primary contact healthcare professionals, meaning patients can book an appointment directly without a referral from a medical doctor. However, some private or extended health insurance plans may require a doctor's referral for reimbursement purposes. Patients should verify the requirements of their individual insurance policies.
