  • Moxibustion (Moxa Therapy): The therapeutic application of heat from burning processed mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) near or on the skin at specific acupuncture points or areas of the body. This warms meridians, stimulates Qi and Blood flow, dispels Cold and Dampness, strengthens Yang energy, and can alleviate conditions associated with cold, stagnation, or deficiency.
  • TCM Pulse Diagnosis (Sphygmology): Skilled palpation of the radial artery pulse at three positions and three depths on each wrist to assess the quality, strength, rhythm, and rate, reflecting the health and balance of Qi and Blood in the twelve major organ systems.
  • Tui Na (Chinese Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork): Therapeutic massage techniques integrated with acupressure, joint mobilization, and stretching to address pain, tension, stress, and promote overall physical and energetic well-being.
  • TCM Observation & Palpation Diagnosis: Utilizing traditional TCM observational skills (Wang) and palpation (Qie - beyond just pulse) to gather diagnostic clues about your underlying pattern of imbalance.
  • Cupping Therapy (Fire Cupping, Sliding Cupping, Stationary Cupping): Application of glass, bamboo, or silicone cups to the skin to create suction (often via heat/fire for glass cups, or a pump for others). This technique helps to relieve muscle tension, improve blood and Qi flow, reduce local inflammation, release toxins, open pores, and treat respiratory conditions or musculoskeletal pain.
  • Gua Sha (Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization - TCM): Traditional East Asian healing technique, often used for musculoskeletal pain, common cold, fever, or heatstroke, to address pain by moving stagnant Qi and Blood, clear heat, and promote tissue recovery.
  • Comprehensive TCM Health Assessment & Pattern Diagnosis: A detailed initial consultation involving an in-depth discussion of your health history, symptoms, lifestyle, emotional state, and a traditional TCM diagnostic assessment (palpation, observation, listening/smelling, pulse, and tongue diagnosis) to identify your unique TCM pattern of disharmony.

Note: This list highlights some key services. For a full list of therapies offered by Iryna, or to discuss your specific needs, please contact the clinic.

At PhysioMed, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture are focused on helping individuals like you achieve significant improvements in health, well-being, and daily activities. Iryna frequently helps patients work towards goals such as:

  • If brain fog, difficulty concentrating, or poor memory is affecting your ability to participate in being able to kneel or squat down to play with pets or children comfortably, Iryna's TCM approach aims for a noticeable reduction in muscle tension, tightness, and related discomfort or stiffness, helping you to regain your stride.
  • It's rewarding for Iryna to witness patients find relief from frequent headaches or intense migraines disrupting their lives and experience reduced cravings and better management of withdrawal symptoms, aiding in addiction recovery (e.g., smoking cessation) through TCM. A tailored approach can make a significant difference in your ability to participate in swimming laps at the pool for fitness and relaxation again.
  • Understanding that dizziness, lightheadedness, or vertigo that affects your balance and daily activities can be frustrating, Iryna applies TCM wisdom to help patients achieve improved circulation, often described as a feeling of warmth or better flow in extremities, making it possible to rediscover the joy in easily carrying groceries in from the car in one or two trips without strain.

Iryna utilizes acupuncture and other TCM methods to aim for visible improvement in chronic skin conditions like eczema, acne, or psoriasis, with healthier-looking skin, so patients can re-engage with managing daily stress with a greater sense of calm, focus, and emotional resilience feeling revitalized.

Does acupuncture hurt? Are the needles safe?
For most people, acupuncture is not painful. The needles used are very thin, and many individuals feel little to no sensation upon insertion. Some common sensations include a slight initial pinch, followed by a dull ache, warmth, tingling, or a feeling of fullness around the needle site, which usually indicates the treatment is working effectively to stimulate your body's Qi. Many patients report feeling very relaxed and even fall asleep during the session. Practitioners are highly trained in safe needling techniques and exclusively use sterile, single-use needles to ensure your safety and prevent infection. If you ever feel any notable pain, inform your Registered Acupuncturist immediately.
What is Acupuncture and how can it help me?
Acupuncture, performed by a qualified Registered Acupuncturist, is a therapeutic technique where thin needles are inserted at specific points on your body. It is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and aims to restore balance to your body's energy flow. It can be beneficial for a wide range of conditions, including pain management (like back pain or headaches), stress reduction, digestive issues, menstrual problems, and much more, by helping to activate your body's own healing mechanisms.
Are Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine services covered by Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) in ON?
Acupuncture and TCM services provided by a Registered Acupuncturist (R.Ac) or Registered TCM Practitioner (R.TCMP) in a private clinic are generally not covered by Ontario's provincial health insurance (OHIP). Patients usually pay out-of-pocket for these services. It is advisable to check your private or extended health insurance plans, as many do offer some coverage for services by registered practitioners, though reimbursement levels can vary greatly.
What is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and how can a Registered Acupuncturist help?
Traditional Chinese Medicine is a holistic approach to health and wellness based on ancient principles. A Registered Acupuncturist will assess your overall health, looking for patterns of imbalance according to TCM theory (often involving tongue and pulse diagnosis). Treatment may include acupuncture, herbal medicine (if qualified as an R.TCMP), cupping, moxibustion, and lifestyle recommendations to help restore your body's natural balance and support healing.
What are Qi and Meridians in TCM?
**Qi** is the vital energy or life force that animates the body and sustains health in TCM. When Qi flows smoothly through the meridians—networks of channels that connect organs and tissues—health is maintained. Blockages, deficiencies, or excesses in Qi flow can lead to pain or illness. Acupuncture aims to restore proper Qi circulation within these meridians.
Do I need a doctor's referral to see a Registered Acupuncturist in ON?
In Ontario, patients can typically access a Registered Acupuncturist directly without a physician's referral (known as direct access). However, some private or extended health insurance plans may require a referral for reimbursement purposes. It is recommended to verify with your insurance provider regarding their specific requirements.

Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture are holistic therapies. It is recommended to also consult with your medical doctor for diagnosis of serious conditions and for emergency medical care. TCM can often complement conventional treatments effectively.
