At Hamilton Health Sciences - Hamilton General Hospital, physiotherapy is focused on helping individuals like you achieve significant improvements in health and daily activities. Stef frequently helps patients work towards goals such as:
- Living with working on getting back to normal after a fracture or other surgery doesn't have to be your norm. Stef applies expert physiotherapy knowledge to work towards being able to play actively with their children or grandchildren again, so you can get back to the simple pleasure of dancing the night away at social events and family celebrations.
- The journey to feeling less fatigued during physical activities and throughout the day when faced with persistent feeling unsteady on my feet or experiencing dizziness and balance problems is made smoother and more effective with Stef's expert physiotherapy care, often leading to a fulfilling and active return to pastimes like resuming their weightlifting routine at the gym safely.
- With Stef's help, managing trouble with a constantly stiff and sore neck, making turning my head a pain to achieve increased flexibility throughout their body, particularly in their back and major joints becomes a clear journey, allowing patients to confidently re-engage with life and activities like playing a full game of recreational hockey with their friends.
- The path to recovery from my infant having a tilted head or a flat spot on their head (torticollis/plagiocephaly) and achieving a greater sense of body confidence and trust in their physical abilities for playing actively and roughhousing with their young kids or grandkids often starts with expert guidance. Stef, a skilled physiotherapist, provides just that.
Your personalized physiotherapy plan, developed with Stef, will be designed to help you reach your specific functional and wellness objectives.

- Is there anything specific I should bring to my first physiotherapy appointment?
- It's helpful to bring your health card, any referral letters from other healthcare providers if you were referred, and any reports or images from relevant medical tests (X-rays, MRIs, etc.) related to your condition. If you have private insurance coverage for physiotherapy, please bring your insurance card or policy details for billing purposes. Comfortable attire that allows for easy movement during the assessment is also recommended.
- What is Hamilton Health Sciences - Hamilton General Hospital's appointment cancellation policy?
- We understand that schedules can change unexpectedly. To ensure we can accommodate all our patients efficiently, we kindly request at least 24 hours' notice for any appointment cancellations or rescheduling. This allows us to offer the time slot to other patients who may be waiting for care. A fee may be charged for late cancellations (less than 24 hours' notice) or missed appointments without sufficient notice. Please contact our clinic as soon as possible if you need to make any changes to your appointment.
- Is physiotherapy covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) in ON?
- OHIP generally does NOT cover physiotherapy services in private outpatient clinics for most of the population. Publicly funded physiotherapy is available in specific situations (e.g., post-hospitalization for certain conditions, for children/youth, seniors, or through Community Physiotherapy Clinics/Family Health Teams), but eligibility criteria are strict and there may be waitlists. Always check your private/extended health insurance plans, as many offer significant physiotherapy coverage for services in private clinics.
- Do I need a doctor's referral to see a Physiotherapist in ON?
- Patients in ON can typically see a Physiotherapist directly without a physician's referral (direct access). However, some private/extended health insurance plans require a referral for reimbursement. Check your insurance policy before your first appointment.
- Does Hamilton Health Sciences - Hamilton General Hospital offer direct billing to private insurance companies?
- While we do not offer direct billing at this time, we provide detailed official receipts that you can easily submit to your insurer for reimbursement according to your plan. Please bring your insurance card/information and always confirm your specific coverage details with your insurance provider. You are responsible for any portion not covered by your insurance.
