At Partners In Rehab, physiotherapy is focused on helping individuals like you achieve significant improvements in health and daily activities. Jessica Marasco frequently helps patients work towards goals such as:

  • Jessica Marasco believes that everyone deserves to move well and feel their best. If experiencing discomfort, back pain, or pelvic girdle pain during or after pregnancy is hindering your ability to keeping up with their team during our weekly soccer match, a personalized plan focusing on increased endurance for walking, allowing for longer and more enjoyable outings can make all the difference.
  • When feeling 'off-balance' and worried about falling, especially as I get older is limiting your lifestyle and preventing you from doing playing their musical instrument (guitar, piano, violin, etc.) for extended periods, physiotherapy with Jessica Marasco can help you work towards feeling a substantial improvement in their mobility and range of motion for easier movement. The aim is to restore optimal function so you can comfortably and safely return to the things you love.
  • Patients often come to Jessica Marasco feeling defeated by swelling in my arm or leg, possibly lymphedema, after surgery or treatment. With a supportive and targeted physiotherapy approach, achieving much better balance overall, reducing the risk of stumbles or falls and resuming managing shopping trips and carrying bags without excessive fatigue or pain becomes a realistic and attainable goal.
  • Jessica Marasco frequently assists patients in overcoming the effects of a noticeable curve in my child's spine or uneven shoulders (scoliosis concerns). A carefully designed physiotherapy program, potentially including specialized manual techniques and progressive exercises, targets learning specific exercises that provide ongoing relief and maintain their progress and supports your enthusiastic engagement in desired activities like taking energetic, long walks with their dog every day.

Your personalized physiotherapy plan, developed with Jessica Marasco, will be designed to help you reach your specific functional and wellness objectives.

Jessica Marasco's practice at Partners In Rehab is located in the Port Arthur North (Current River, Centennial Park area) neighborhood of Thunder Bay. What is manual therapy in physiotherapy?
Manual therapy involves skilled, hands-on treatments performed by your Physiotherapist as part of your overall physiotherapy plan. These techniques are designed to assess and treat your joints, muscles, and nerves to decrease pain and improve your mobility and function. Examples include specific joint mobilizations to improve movement, soft tissue release techniques to address muscle tightness or scar tissue, and sometimes manipulations (adjustments) if indicated and appropriate for your condition and your therapist's qualifications.
What is Partners In Rehab's appointment cancellation policy?
We understand that schedules can change unexpectedly. To ensure we can accommodate all our patients efficiently, we kindly request at least 24 hours' notice (or one business day) for any appointment cancellations or rescheduling. This allows us to offer the time slot to other patients who may be waiting for care. A fee may be charged for late cancellations (less than 24 hours' notice) or missed appointments (no-shows) without sufficient notice. Please contact our clinic as soon as possible if you need to make any changes to your appointment.
Is physiotherapy treatment supposed to be painful?
The primary goal of physiotherapy is generally to reduce pain and improve function, not to cause significant or lasting pain. Some assessment techniques or specific treatments (like deep soft tissue work, joint mobilization, or certain exercises) might cause mild, temporary discomfort or soreness, especially if the tissues being treated are sensitive, inflamed, or very stiff. However, your Physiotherapist will always work within your tolerance levels, communicate clearly about what to expect, and encourage open feedback. If you experience notable or unacceptable pain during treatment, please inform your therapist immediately so adjustments can be made to ensure your comfort.
Is physiotherapy covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) in ON?
OHIP generally does NOT cover physiotherapy services in private outpatient clinics for most of the population. Publicly funded physiotherapy is available in specific situations (e.g., post-hospitalization for certain conditions, for children/youth, seniors, or through Community Physiotherapy Clinics/Family Health Teams), but eligibility criteria are strict and there may be waitlists. Always check your private/extended health insurance plans, as many offer significant physiotherapy coverage for services in private clinics. Verify your specific eligibility for any public coverage directly with the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).
Will I be given exercises to do at home?
Absolutely! Home exercises are a vital part of your rehabilitation journey and empower you to take an active role in your recovery process. Your Physiotherapist will carefully select and teach you exercises specific to your needs. These exercises help to reinforce what's done in the clinic, manage your condition effectively, and ensure you continue progressing towards your goals even when you're not in a session.
How long do physiotherapy appointments typically last?
Initial assessment appointments are generally longer to allow for a thorough evaluation and discussion, typically lasting between 45 to 60 minutes. Subsequent follow-up treatment sessions are usually shorter, often ranging from 30 to 45 minutes. However, the duration can vary depending on your specific needs, the complexity of your condition, the type of treatment being provided, and the treatment plan designed by your Physiotherapist.
What kind of clothing should I wear to my physiotherapy appointment?
Comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement is best for your physiotherapy appointment – think about what you might wear to a gym or for light exercise. If you're being treated for a lower-body issue (like hip or knee pain), shorts are very helpful. For upper-body issues (like shoulder or neck pain), a tank top or loose t-shirt is suitable so the Physiotherapist can properly examine and treat the area.
Do I need a doctor's referral to see a Physiotherapist in ON?
Patients in ON can typically see a Physiotherapist directly without a physician's referral (direct access). However, some private/extended health insurance plans require a referral for reimbursement. Check your insurance policy before your first appointment.
