Can affect small or large joints, often asymmetrically, and sometimes the spine.

Achieving Your Health Goals with Physiotherapy Care

At TONIC Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Centre, physiotherapy is focused on helping individuals like you achieve significant improvements in health and daily activities. Janki frequently helps patients work towards goals such as:

  • Janki frequently assists patients in overcoming the effects of recurrent dislocations or a feeling of instability in my shoulder or knee. A carefully designed physiotherapy program, potentially including specialized manual techniques and progressive exercises, targets increased endurance for walking, allowing for longer and more enjoyable outings and supports your enthusiastic engagement in desired activities like standing for longer periods, for example, while cooking or at an event.
  • For those whose dealing with pelvic pain or bladder/bowel control issues (for both men and women) has made using garden tools effectively and without pain seem like a distant memory, Janki's physiotherapy care offers a clear path toward feeling a substantial improvement in their mobility and range of motion for easier movement. Effective, evidence-based treatments can be instrumental in helping you get back to using garden tools effectively and without pain with greater comfort and renewed confidence.
  • Many individuals seek help from Janki, their physiotherapist, when an old ankle sprain that never seems to fully heal and still feels weak starts impacting daily life. Through a personalized physiotherapy plan, they often achieve learning specific exercises that provide ongoing relief and maintain their progress, empowering them to joyfully return to activities like setting up and taking down equipment for hobbies or sports.
  • Dealing with the ongoing challenges of experiencing discomfort, back pain, or pelvic girdle pain during or after pregnancy? Janki works collaboratively with patients to reach the goal of implementing practical strategies to avoid re-injury during work or daily life. This might involve specific rehabilitation techniques, hands-on care, and a home program, all aimed at helping you confidently resume important activities, such as playing actively and roughhousing with their young kids or grandkids.

Your personalized physiotherapy plan, developed with Janki, will be designed to help you reach your specific functional and wellness objectives.

Frequently Asked Questions about Physiotherapy in Milton

Is physiotherapy treatment supposed to be painful?
While some physiotherapy techniques might feel uncomfortable or cause a temporary increase in soreness (similar to muscle soreness after a new workout), especially when working on stiff joints or tight muscles, it should not be excessively or intolerably painful. Your Physiotherapist will discuss what sensations you might expect with different treatments and will always aim to adjust the intensity and techniques to ensure you are as comfortable as possible while still achieving therapeutic benefits. Constant communication about your comfort level is very important.
I have private health insurance. How does that work with physiotherapy payments?
Many private health insurance plans offer full or partial coverage for registered physiotherapy services. We recommend you contact your insurance provider directly before your first appointment to understand the specifics of your plan. Key things to check are: your annual maximum for physiotherapy, any per-visit limits or co-payments, whether a doctor's referral is required for reimbursement, and if your plan allows for direct billing by the clinic. If TONIC Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Centre offers direct billing and your plan allows it, we can often bill your insurer directly for the covered portion. You would then be responsible for any co-payment or remaining balance not covered by your plan at the time of service. Please bring your insurance card and all necessary policy details to your first appointment. If direct billing is not possible, we will provide you with an official receipt that you can submit to your insurer.
How long do physiotherapy appointments typically last?
Your first physiotherapy appointment, which includes a detailed assessment and the development of your initial treatment plan, usually takes about 60 minutes. Follow-up appointments are typically scheduled for 30 to 45 minutes. The exact duration of each session will depend on the nature of your treatment and what your Physiotherapist has planned for that specific visit to best help you progress.
Is physiotherapy covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) in ON?
OHIP generally does NOT cover physiotherapy services in private outpatient clinics for most of the population. Publicly funded physiotherapy is available in specific situations (e.g., post-hospitalization for certain conditions, for children/youth, seniors, or through Community Physiotherapy Clinics/Family Health Teams), but eligibility criteria are strict and there may be waitlists. We strongly advise checking your private insurance for coverage of services in private clinics.
Do I need a doctor's referral to see a Physiotherapist in ON?
Patients in ON can typically see a Physiotherapist directly without a physician's referral (direct access). However, some private/extended health insurance plans require a referral for reimbursement. Check your insurance policy before your first appointment.
